A picture's worth...

I've always been haunted by this statue from WWII Stalingrad. What does it mean? I'd love to know the story behind it.

I mean, it could symbolize the Russians playing ring-around-the-rosie with the Kraut Krokodile, but if memory serves, that statue is older than WWII. I just don't know.

Those croc statues are all over Europe. Most of them show the croc chained to a palm tree. They symbolize Napoleon's (failed) conquest of Egypt.
